WHAT ROLE DO MEN PLAY IN WOMEN’S ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT?

The fourth Novatore Impact Summit is fast approaching, promising an engaging and thought-provoking agenda. Speakers include Linda Scott, Emeritus DP World Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Oxford, and Tīna Graudiņa, Latvian Olympic beach volleyball athlete, among many. New this year is a panel discussion on men’s role in women’s economic empowerment.

According to Juris Paegle, Sales Director, Baltics at Visa, and one of the participants of the highly anticipated panel, women’s active participation in business, the labour market and leadership is a prerequisite for a more cohesive, prosperous and happier society.

“Research shows that companies with gender-diverse leadership are not only more profitable and efficient but also better at finding innovative solutions to challenges. Equally important, especially today, is social cohesion. Workplace gender equality helps reduce social inequalities and discrimination, fostering a more stable and united society. Women's professional growth and leadership benefit not just women but society as a whole, making it economically stronger, fairer and more sustainable,” says Paegle.

Paegle will be joined on the panel by Klāvs Vasks, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Tet and Normunds Stanevičs, Executive Director of Riga East Clinical University Hospital. Tomass Pildegovičs, Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, will lead the conversation.

“An individual can only do so much, so the support of the men around them – fathers, partners, colleagues, line managers – is vital for women's career development. Without it, the career path will sooner or later become increasingly bumpy and may even stall completely at a crossroads. Despite numerous international studies highlighting the positive impact of women in leadership on national economies and overall well-being, many still wrongly believe that women are not suited for top management roles. The sooner we break free from these stereotypes and actively support one another, the stronger our economy and national growth will be,” adds Dagnija Lejiņa, co-founder of Novatore, to underscore the importance of the panel discussion.

Summit to address the connection between leadership, health and well-being

During the summit, Krista Kalnbērziņa, Head of the Monetary Policy Analysis Department at the Bank of Latvia, will present the latest data from the Novatore Gender Barometer survey, conducted earlier this year by the research agency Norstat. She will connect the findings to the future development potential of the Latvian economy.

Returning speaker Linda Scott, a favorite among past Novatore Impact Summit attendees, will explore the true economic costs of sexism. Meanwhile, Laura Blaževičiute, CEO of All Media Lithuania, will join HR professional Zane Čulkstēna in a discussion on the fine line between excellence and burnout. Antoņina Bļodone, Colonel of the National Armed Forces, and journalist Ina Strazdiņa will examine women’s leadership and mental resilience in the face of today’s geopolitical challenges. Terje Peetso, Chief Medical Innovation Officer at the North Estonia Medical Centre, will delve into the future of personalized healthcare, while Dita Rietuma, Head of the National Film Centre and a renowned cinema critic, will highlight excellence in the film industry, touching on the global success of the animated film Flow.

In addition to these thought-provoking discussions, participants can engage in several hands-on workshops. Ilze Znotiņa, Member of the Board at Augstsprieguma Tīkls, will share strategies for leading teams through crises and uncertainty. Karīna Kulberga, founder of SheOwns, financier, and investor, will offer a roadmap to financial success and security. Meanwhile, Trudy Žagare, a consultant, trainer and mentor, will equip attendees with the skills to negotiate and reach agreements with confidence.

Prime Minister of Latvia, Evika Siliņa, will open the summit on 6 March.
